Segantini Hut

 

Giovanni Segantini is regarded as the great reviver of Alpine painting and an important representative of Symbolism at the end of the 19th century. To complete his triptych for the forthcoming world fair in Paris, retreated to the Schafberg hut above Pontresina. On 28 september 1899, at the age of 41 years, the artist died unexpectedly on the Schafberg hight above Pontresina while working on the middle section of his Alpine Triptych. His beautiful triptych can be seen at the segantini museum in St. Moritz.

 

Today the hut with his spectacular view down the Engadine is a popular excursion for local inhabitants and visitors from all over the world.

The Segantini hut is usually open from 10 am till 5 pm from mid June to mid October
